 Week (4)(5)

Assalm alikom.
This is the fourth week and we learned in it about IS information system and as we know that information system is the combination of hardware, software, infrastructure and trained personnel organized to facilitate planning, control, coordination and decision making in an organization.

And also we learnt in this class about the component; we have 6 components:
1-    People (the user of the information system; who manage and make the program running..)
2-    Telecommunication (Electronic transmission of signals for communications which enables organizations to carry out their processes and task through effective computer networks).
3-    Software (Consist of computer programs).
4-    Hardware (Consists of computer equipment).
5-    Database (An organized collection of facts and information).
6-    Procedure (Strategies, policies, methods and rules for using computer information system including operation).

And there are main types of information system (IS);
1)      TRANSACTION PROCESSING SYSTEM (TPS)
The transaction processing system (TPS) records the data from everyday operations throughout every division or department in the organization. Each division or department is tied together through the TPS to provide useful information to management levels throughout the company.
2)      DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEM (DSS)
It is an organized collection of people, procedures, software, databases and devices used to support problem-specific decision making, it is used when problem is complex.
DSS are used to support unstructured problems that   require human judgment.
3)      EXPERT SUPPORT SYSTEM (ESS)
It is a computer system that emulates the decision-making ability of a human expert.[1] Expert systems are designed to solve complex problems by reasoning about knowledge, like an expert
4)      MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM (MIS)
It is an integrated collection of people, procedures, databases and devices that provides managers and decision makers with information to help achieve organizational goals.
It provides the right information to the right person in the right format at the right time.
5)      EXECUTIVE SUPPORT SYSTEM (ESS)
An executive support system helps managers make strategic decisions affecting the entire company. The decisions use internal and external data to give executives the information they need to determine the proper course of action in unstructured situations.

These types are very important especially in using in an organization, as we mentioned before that each on of these types do an important, unique and specific role from the others.
Each type of these systems is used in different level in the organization as we see in the picture dawn.

This week I was happy (^_^) because I learnt new information about IS and the types of IS; who and when use every type, but I think it is confused a little bit especially about the components and types so I will wait next week to ask our teacher Mr.Azam aldeen to ask him about it and I think I need to read more to know about it.

In this week also we took assignment; every group got one topic, they have to explain about it and write example about it. Like my group got (TPS)so we explained about it and we mentioned as an example he OPAC (online public access catalog).
